Children’s Mental Health Week 2022
Children's Mental Health Week is taking place during 7-13 February 2022.
The week is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on children and young people's mental health and this year's theme is Growing Together.
At South East and Central Essex Mind we serve the Chelmsford, Castle Point, Rochford, South Woodham Ferrers and Southend areas helping support local people with their mental health and wellbeing needs. As part of our work as your local mental health charity, we have been working in partnership with the NHS, Kids Inspire and Thurrock Open Door offering an early intervention support service to children and young people in our community whose emotional wellbeing is at risk.
Funding for this invaluable service is due to end soon and we need your help to secure the future of our Children and Young People services.
By getting involved during Children’s Mental Health Week, you could not only raise important awareness, but also vital funds for SECE Mind to ensure every child has easy access to mental health support.
We are now facing a mental health crisis, the pandemic has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of cases being referred to us. 1 in 6 children and young people had a mental health problem in 2020 (compared to 1 in 10 in 2017).
Early support is vital to helping reduce the long-term impact on what is already a difficult and distressing time for us all. Our work focuses on intervention and wellbeing support, mentoring and empowering children by teaching tools and tips to understand and take care of their own mental health and skills to allow them to thrive rather than simply survive.
Being able to take on referrals from schools and parents and reducing financial barriers through a funded service is vital to us reaching those who are the most vulnerable.
One in six children and young people have a diagnosable mental health problem and many continue to have these problems into adulthood. This is where your support really makes a difference.
