SECE Mind partners with Southend United and c2c for World Mental Health Day

South East and Central Essex Mind is excited to be part of the collaboration between partners Southend United Football Club and c2c to raise awareness of mental health and support mental wellbeing in our community.

As part of World Mental Health Day this October, our charity partner Southend United and SU Front of Shirt partner c2c has released a special video highlighting the importance of togetherness, teamwork, and mental health support.

The video  at Roots Hall features staff from both Southend United and c2c coming together to show how sport and community can positively impact mental health.

The campaign kicks off with c2c staff arriving at Roots Hall Stadium for what they believe is a routine training session, only to be surprised by Southend United Head Coach, Kevin Maher, who leads them through a series of drills alongside Darren Currie and Mark Bentley.

This inspiring session demonstrates that teamwork and physical activity are more than just about fitness; they harbour connection and wellbeing, echoing the broader message of World Mental Health Day.

Kevin Maher, Head Coach at Southend United, said:

“Mental health is just as crucial as physical health, and it's something we often take for granted. Through sport, teamwork, and community, we can help people feel supported and connected.

“I was pleased to be able to put on this session for the staff at c2c; it is a great reminder that we’re all in this together. We should never feel alone when facing life's challenges. Together, we can make a real difference.”

c2c Managing Director, Rob Mullen, said: “We are proud and honoured to have joined with our partners at Southend United and SECE Mind to raise awareness and support for World Mental Health Day and the mental health services available in the local areas we serve.

“Through our partnership with the football club, we are reaching out to our communities, colleagues, customers and partners to remind them that together, we are stronger”.

Rob added: “Our team training session with Southend United provided a timely reminder of the importance role that exercise, team sports, togetherness, camaraderie and friendship has in supporting our mental well-being.”

World Mental Health Day reminds us that mental health affects everyone, and the support of our community is essential. Southend United, c2c, and SECE Mind have joined forces to raise awareness and provide practical resources to those in need. The video concludes with a powerful, but important, message: if you or someone you know is struggling, you are not alone.

Southend United encourages fans and the wider community to support mental health initiatives by getting involved with local services, including Mind, Andy’s Man Club, and other outreach programs across Essex.

This World Mental Health Day, remember, together, we are stronger.
